The Realist Idealist is a forum for people to discuss the exploration and implementation of ideas, the need for clean energy, the proposing and implementation of socially responsible business practices, the use of technology (not just gawking at it), and the connection of all these “things” to politics, the environment, the community …and probably some other stuff too.
Throughout our discussions and meanderings we hope there will be a strong focus on how to translate our idealistic thoughts and ideas into reality.
…as well as how making those “ideal” translations most often have very “real” challenges to go along with them
The Realist Idealist was launched in February 2008 by Jake Brewer and some amazing friends. Through Jake’s work at Idealist.org and elsewhere around the globe, he felt a need to connect the practical strategies and established networks he worked with to the new, visionary, and “idealistic” ideas that he very often came across or read about. As the thought of doing more writing along these lines brewed in Jake’s head, the idea inevitably spilled out to others because Jake can’t keep his mouth shut.
Eventually, one too many friends responded to Jake’s ramblings with, “huh… that could be a great blog” for Jake not to think, “huh… this could be a great blog.”
And thus a blog was born.
While it’s typically the case that great things aren’t possible without a whole host of people behind them, this blog (that will qualify as a “great thing” primarily in our nerdy enthusiasm about writing on it) was made possible almost entirely because of the efforts and encouragement of one person: Brad Pierce.
Brad claims he can’t program his way out of a wet paper bag, but we beg to differ! You da man, Brad.
