The Realist Idealist

One of my favorite organizations of the last six months is Avaaz.org - who I learned of through one of their staff, Ben Wikler, based here in DC.  They are essentially the MoveOn.org for international issues.

So far this week Avaaz has amassed over 450,000 signatures in a petition to Chinese president Hu Jintao that calls for restraint and dialogue in its dealings with Tibet, and the petition is well on its way to 1,000,000  names.

I’m not always a huge fan of petitions, but I do believe that one million signatures from around the world sends a clear signal that we are aware of what is being perpetrated by China and that we won’t stand for it.
