Clinton Going Negative = A Damn Shame

March 5th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Making things (actually) happen on a campaign apparently involves going negative.

We all knew this was true going into this year, but I have to admit, I honestly bought into the idea that most people were happy that the democratic campaign thus far has been much more positive.

Unfortunately, last night’s results in Ohio, Texas, and Rhode Island seem to prove otherwise.

Current.com had a good blog post about it today.

Essentially, Clinton’s camp used 3 main lines of attack while allowing other rumors to flourish.

1) The 3 am ad (ALSO: see this video on MSNBC about Obama’s foreign policy experience),

2) Rumors about a NAFTA conversation with Canada that left a different impression than what he states publicly (Canada has denied this)

3 Ties with a Chicago businessman who’s in trial now (he’s in court for things that have nothing to do with Obama, Obama has given all the money he donated to charity).

And then on top there continues to be circulation by the Clinton camp of Obama in traditional East African Islamic clothing - perpetuating the rumors that Obama is Muslim.

It will obviously continue to be fascinating to see how this race plays out, but I’m afraid that Obama is going to have to return in kind to maintain his delegate lead.

What do y’all think?
